Either fans of live rock music are catching on to the magic of a great night at Mr Kyps; or Jak the Lad and The Missing Link have massive fan followings. My theory is, it's probably a large portion of both. Regardless, Kyps fairly heaved with punters, and as ever, it was a joy to be part of it. Veterans, Jak the Lad, had given over a 30 minute spot to enable The Missing Link to make their debut on the Kyps' stage. Wow! This trio of lads are a mere 15 years old!! To be so talented at such a young age has to be an excellent sign for their future. Tunnel-vision, lads, never look back, and you will see your dreams realised.
As with many young bands these days, The Missing Link already have the confidence to stick two fingers up to playing covers, and simply play their own material. And it was highly original, too. Veteran rock fan as I am, I'd be hard pushed to say who they sounded like - other than The Missing Link - it's their music, and the crowd received them heartily. Jak the Lad are well seasoned in whipping up the crowd with their locked-and-loaded arsenal of classic rock ammo. They thundered out a great blend of material from Free, Bad Company, Tom Petty, the Beatles, and early Fleetwood Mac, amongst others.
A five-piece, their cheeky-chappy vocalist only added to the band's overall confidence with the crowd, adding some entertaining between-songs chat. And as is becoming the tradition at Kyps now methinks, as the night grew older, so the volume cranked up a little more, and every band, including Jak the Lad, sound all the better for it. Yes, another great night. It's like a rock fan's dream, they just keep coming up with them time after time - so all power to Kyps for having their finger on the pulse. And I have no doubt both Jak the Lad and The Missing Link will have invitations to return to tread the boards on that fast-becoming-famous stage in Parkstone before too long.
