If you want real musical talent and a bloody good night out you really must book these fellas for your venue!! We had a fantastic night rocking and rolling in the King Charles. Mossy's vocals were outstanding and he interacted with the crowd like a pro who has been doing this far longer than his 4 years. The musicians were fabulous too. So skilled! These boys must surely be one of the best local bands around. Thanks guys, for a really great night out!! |

I Thoroughly enjoyed the set last night (Sunday). A very tight band with their own influences subtly crafted in with others material. Good jokes in between songs and watch out for Little Jak The Lad too. I reckon they should be a regular fixture with you gents.

JAK THE LAD delivered a polished and enthusiastic performance, with the lead singer in particular putting his all into the show.

I've seen this band many times before. But I have never heard them so tight as on this night, as they played to a fairly packed crowd. Perfect sound levels and steady beat with no mistakes. John's guitar solo's with the controlled feedback was truly masterful.

I thought Jak the Lad were good, very good in fact, and then on sauntered Eric Sardinas, a dark shadow in a hat attached to an odd looking guitar. As the night unfolded, I felt that perhaps the guitar was a part of him, that it was an extra limb. It seemed it reacted to his touch by thought alone. He drew out of it a presence, like it was a living thing. From my perch upon the seat, I watched as the audience rocked with him, fell into hushed anticipation as he slid into haunting melody and then exploded into a frenzy of rocking again.
This kind of treat only comes round once in a long while. You get used to all the usual uninspired junk on the radio/tv. You find someone you really like and go to all the gigs you can afford. It costs you an arm and a leg to see your favourite 'supergroup' who you travel miles to see. And then, out ot the blue, comes along this 'vaguely unknown' who, for five pounds transports you to the deep south where you can visualise things armed with teeth and claws lurking silently in the murky river depths, sultry heat and insects and front porches.

On the way to Mr. Kyps at downtown Parkstone we were wondering what kind of evening we would be in for going to see an artist, who up to a few weeks ago we'd never heard of. With a name like Eric Sardinas it had to be worth a gamble. Local band Jak The Lad opened the evening with a rocking good set of well known covers and not so well known. With only a small crowd to work with you've got to give these guys credit for putting on a very entertaining set especially with a Stones song like 'Jumping Jack Flash', a Greenday number and Bad Co.'s 'Shooting Star'. To show what a versatile vocalist Mossy is we had a Ramone type version of 'What A Wonderful World' followed by Thin Lizzy's 'Don't Believe A Word', which started off at a slower tempo with a bluesy feel then ending at full pelt as the original.

I thought you were brilliant, its probably the best gig I've seen so far. Me and my friend were dancing in the middle of the circle.

Visited the King Charles last Saturday with some mates, as we had heard they were doing live music on the weekends.
We had heard of Jak the lad, but had never seen them before. Fantastic! What a great band. One of the best that I have seen locally. Guitarists were very good, and the singer was a great showman. We'll be back to see them again some time very soon.

Jak The Lad are no strangers to the Kyps audience by now, and indeed they have sold out headlining shows on a couple of occasions before. Purveyors of essential classic rock, they deliver everything you would expect and a little bit more besides, pulling out 'surprise' classics you had almost forgotten were so classic; frequently. And with the righteous attitude that rock 'n' roll should be fun whilst sticking firmly to their musical integrity, this fun element is always there with between-the-songs-banter from vocalist, Mossy, ribbing the other band members, and himself, into the bargain. A knockout local band guaranteed to give you a rocking good night out you won't forget in a hurry.
With no less than 12 chart hits behind them, agreed, a long time ago, but still very memorable, The Animals couldn't fail to please the almost packed out audience. With original members still present, (and claiming their pension, no doubt!), and the other band members being of superb pedigree, it was a sure-shot your ticket money was going to be well spent. With their half Century history behind them, you won't doubt for a minute when I tell you we used to play their albums on reel-to-reel tapes, then as much in-vogue as their vinyl counterparts, and equally as important, and your only other choice as the recorded musical medium of the day.
So, the hits, the foot-tappers and the sing-alongs came thick and fast. Boom Boom Boom Boom, Suzie Q, I Put A Spell On You, Baby Let Me Take You Home, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, and San Franciscan Nights were there, and more, plus the still spine-tingling House Of The Rising Sun, and an encore, quite rightly, dedicated to "every soldier who's ever fought in any lousy war" - We Gotta Get Out Of This Place. Musicianship was superb, the vocals as gravelly and thick as Eric Burdon's, with that rich texture of one of those great, fruity cakes like grandma used to make. Yes, The Animals were back, but then they've never been away; another fine coup for Kyp and the team!
